In 2019, donations like yours helped save lives in the Greater DC/Baltimore area by allowing the American Cancer Society to:

Invest more than $14.5 million in local cancer research
Provide 394 cancer patients and their caregivers with 12,972 free nights of lodging at Baltimore Hope Lodge and area hotels saving them $2.3 million
Give 4,128 free rides to and from cancer treatment saving patients more than $210,000
Provided 7,872 free breast and colorectal cancer screenings to uninsured and underinsured residents of Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia, and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia
And, operate our 24/7 ACS free cancer information hotline at 1-800-227-2345 and cancer.org website available to patients, caregivers and the community

How is my donation used?

The American Cancer Society makes significant investments in cancer research, advocacy, and patient support, including information and education on prevention and early detection as well as treatment options. A smaller portion of our resources are used to fund our management and general expenses, as well as fundraising expenses.

Are donations made to the American Cancer Society tax deductible?

Yes, monetary donations to our organization are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. However, certain donations in which the donor receives a good or service in return for a donation are not tax deductible or may be only partially deductible. This would apply to American Cancer Society initiatives such as the Cars For a Cure program, Golf Pass programs, and Discovery Shop purchases. Donors should consult with their tax advisors if they have questions about their deductions.

Can I make a donation in honor or memory of someone?

It’s easy to celebrate the life of a friend or loved one by making a donation to the American Cancer Society in their honor or memory. Simply select the checkbox to dedicate your donation and complete the dedication information on the donation form. Once you’ve completed the donation, you will have the opportunity to send a card to the honoree or family acknowledging your gift.
